Pondering the Word

A few thoughts gained while pondering the word of God

Luk 2:19  But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

The shepherds were told good tidings, they were told about a Saviour being born. They heard the angels sing glory to God in the highest. These shepherds then went to see Jesus lying in a manger. Shepherds went to see the Lamb of God lying in a manger. Are these the things you ponder? What do you ponder? Do you ponder Jesus, the Son of the most high God, or do you ponder the next episode of such and such, or the next football or baseball game? What matters in your life? Do you ponder all the evil in the political world, or the Governor of the world? We need to dwell on the things of God.

Php 4:8  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Troubled:

Mat 2:2  Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
Mat 2:3  When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

It’s interesting how Jerusalem is troubled at the coming of her own Messiah. I mean the news of Jesus’ birth should have been good news. They did not desire this King of the Jews because they were a rebellious house. The Bible says that Jerusalem was the one that killed the prophets of God.

Mat 23:37  O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

Jerusalem knew their own sin, and perhaps this is what troubled them. Look at the Psalm below.

Psa 9:16  The LORD is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah.
Psa 9:17  The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

The Lord is known by his judgment. And the wicked shall be turned into hell. Think about it. If you knew that the Lord was a just judge, and you also knew that you were wicked, the coming of the Lord would trouble you too. What these people did not know is that the Lord came not into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:17)

What was not true for the first coming will be true to the second. When the Lord comes back it will be…

  1. A blessed hope to the saved. (Titus 2:13)

  1. Damnation to the unbelievers. (2Thes. 2:12)

The Lord came into the world the 1st time so that you do not have to be troubled about his second coming. Be a wise man and seek out the Lord while he can be found.

Joh 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Isa_55:6  Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
